Are sugars bad for health?

The word sugar is a generic term for a type of carbohydrate, mostly containing glucose.

There are various types of sugars such as fructose (found in syrups) lactose (found in dairy) depending on the chemical composition and the way the basic elements are combined. When simple sugars are consumed they quickly get broken down into its basic unit and absorbed by the body creating “sugar highs.” Sugar serves as the preferential fuel source for the body, but dramatic fluctuations and constant elevations can result in negative health consequences.

As always the key is moderation, but when it comes to sugars, complex sugars from fruits are viewed as being more beneficial than simple ones from processed foods.
