It’s said vitamin C is important, but why?

February 25, 2021

Whenever you see the word ‘health’, vitamin C won’t be too far away. However, what is this important vitamin and what are the actual benefits?

Vitamin C is a nutrient that helps to protect our cells and is a powerful antioxidant. Also known as ascorbic acid, it’s a water-soluble vitamin. By protecting our cells, it supports healthy skin, blood vessels, bones and cartilage and helps the body in healing wounds.

You may have noticed the highly popular vitamin is featured in countless beauty campaigns and products. So, is vitamin C actually beneficial in your beauty products? The short answer is yes. Vitamin C can brighten dark spots in your complexion and prevents ageing by protecting against damage from the sun (UV light). However, it’s most important to ingest vitamin C through your diet.

Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits as well as other fruit and vegetables

Foods with the highest content of the vitamin will be fresh, organic fruit and vegetables, especially citrus fruits. Other sources are peppers, strawberries, blackcurrants, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and potatoes.

Vitamin C is not stored in the body, so it is important to eat foods rich in it each day. On average, you need around 80mg of vitamin C every day. A medium orange contains around 70mg.

REVIV offer vitamin booster shots

According to global surveys, only 50% of the population have the recommended amount of vitamin C in their diet. Surveys in the US found that nearly the entire population does not receive the recommended amount in their diet.  In the UK, 54% of the public don’t meet the recommended amount.

It’s also worth thinking about taking a supplement. Many clinics around the world now offer intravenous vitamin C, to utilise much higher concentrations, very safely, to allow us to get more uptake into the body and it’s often included in IV therapy infusions – REVIV’s Megaboost is rich in this much needed vitamin.

Alternatively, contact our nearest REVIV clinic to talk to one of our medical professionals about ways we could possibly help.
